The 3,000m2 school was integrated into the existing listed buildings. The site contains protected classrooms on Ground and First that only allowed specialist ‘task’ lighting and very little ceiling mounted services. The renovations were designed by John Robertson Architects. Thornton Reynolds provided building services design covering many specialist areas, particularly their information technology services, CAT 6 wiring and Communications Room. The ventilation was also carefully threaded through the building, using existing chimneys as new risers was not allowed so innovative solutions were needed.
Benefit: Updated technology throughout the space. New ventilation fitted to maximise energy efficiency, innovative use of space for ventilation, to avoid existing chimney stacks.
